Here are the defined Lice Policies for the Dickinson ISD. Click on the links to see full detail.
Dickinson ISD Student Handbook (p. 48)
If careful observation indicates that a student has head lice, the school nurse will contact the student’s parent to determine whether the student will need to be picked up from school and to discuss a plan for treatment with an FDA-approved medicated shampoo or cream rinse … After the student has undergone one treatment, the parent should check in with the school nurse to discuss the treatment used. The nurse can also offer additional recommendations, including subsequent treatments and how best to get rid of lice and prevent their return.
Notice will also be provided to parents of elementary school students in the affected classroom.
III. The school nurse will determine if a child has head lice and/or nits.
A. If live lice and/or nits are found, the student will be excluded immediately.
B. Before a child can be re-admitted to school they must be checked by the school nurse.
*The treatment process and how to clean the environment will be thoroughly explained to parents.
IV. If several children are found with head lice in a school, form letter may be sent home if the principal and school nurse deem that it would be beneficial.
V. Head checks will be conducted as deemed necessary.
