Alvin ISD Head Lice Policy
Here are the defined Lice Policies for the Alvin ISD. Click on the links to see full detail.
Alvin ISD Student/Parent Handbook (p. 77)
If careful observation indicates that a student has head lice, the school nurse will contact the student’s parent to determine whether the student will need to be picked up from school and to discuss a plan for treatment with an FDA-approved medicated shampoo or cream rinse … After the student has undergone one treatment, the parent should check in with the school nurse to discuss the treatment used. The nurse can also offer additional recommendations, including subsequent treatments and how best to get rid of lice and prevent their return.
Notice will also be provided to parents of elementary school students in the affected classroom.
Alvin ISD is enforcing the following procedures:
*School nurses screen for head lice, when suspected. Siblings of a child with an infestation will be screened as well.
*Entire class screenings will not be conducted, as they are not proven to be an effective means to prevent further infestation and are not
recommended by the American Pediatric Association.
*If live lice are found on a child, the parent is notified to pick up the child immediately.
*If only nits are found on a child, the parent is notified by phone and the student will go home at the end of the school day
