National Bullying Prevention Month
October is National Bullying Prevention Month, a cause that Lice Clinics of America – Cypress firmly supports. When it comes to the topic of bullying, the conversation almost always revolves around children and teens.
However, parents are sometimes bullied about their parenting choices. For example, a parent will post online questions or provide advice on how to solve a problem such as lice, and while some responses are helpful, some can be scathing and of a bullying nature. We’ve even seen parents accused of being lazy on some social media channels for wanting a quick solution to a head lice infestation.
“We’ve had parents come to us after months and months, and sometimes years, of battling lice and they are at their wits end dealing with it at home,” says Jen Mortensen, owner of Lice Clinics of America – Cypress. “They’re not being lazy–they’re turning to professional help to end the nightmare they’ve been living.”
According to an Acu-Poll study conducted in 2018 with Lice Clinics of America, having a child come home with head lice ranks third on the list of “Top Parenting Nightmares,” following coming home with a broken bone or a “broken heart.” More than half of all parents feel judged by other parents when their child comes home with head lice.
“We’re here as a peace of mind service as well as a lice treatment service,” says Mortensen. “We want families in our community to know that we’re here to provide them with a professional service they can count on.”
